The expanded anterior rib ends of rickets, this is the classic rachitic rosary appearance. Periosteal new bone formation noted of the ribs along the mid axillary line. Right upper lobe collapse noted.
Case Discussion
The rachitic rosary is a classic Aunt Minnie for rickets, but is by no means pathognomonic.
Rachitic rosary differential diagnosis:
- scurvy: scorbutic rosary (the adjective scorbutic is used for scurvy-related findings)
- hypophosphatasia
- chondrodystrophy
- non-accidental injury: multiple healing fractures can mimic this appearance
