Presentation
Radiographs perform as part of an investigation for chest pain.
Patient Data
An atrial septal defect closure device is demonstrated on the lateral and AP chest radiographs. Atrial septal defect (ASD) devices are typically below a line drawn from the carina to the cardiac apex in a lateral radiograph. Annotated arrows flank the ASD closure device on the lateral radiograph.
Additional axial CT image confirms the device and its position.
Case Discussion
Atrial septal defect closure devices are radioopaque and can be detected in radiographs. Atrial septal defect (ASD) devices are typically below a line drawn from the carina to the cardiac apex in a lateral radiograph.
