Presentation
Anemia under evaluation. Upper GI endoscopy revealed a submucosal polypoidal mass in gastric fundus.
Patient Data

Gastric fundal submucosal heterogeneously enhancing mass lesion with central non-enhancing areas traversing gastric serosa associated with loss of fat planes with segment 2 of liver. There is a subcapsular hypodense lesion also involving the adjacent segment 2, possibly direct infiltration. Multiple subcentimetric perigastric round-enhancing lymph nodes present. No gastric intraluminal spread. Few paraaortic enhancing lymph nodes present.
Case Discussion
The most common submucosal tumor of the GIT is the gastrointestinal stromal tumor. It presents late due to its extra luminal location and symptoms only arise when it has significantly grown or spread to other viscera. Anemia brought this patient to our attention rather than weight loss or loss of appetite, the usual constitutional symptoms of neoplasm. Fortunately, they also respond well to treatment.
