Thoracic scoliosis of left-sided convexity centered on left lateral T8 hemivertebra.
The Cobb angle was at 30 degrees on x-rays (not shown).
Associated block vertebra C3-4.
No associated intraspinal anomalies.
Case Discussion
Hemivertebra is a type of vertebral anomaly and results from a lack of formation of one half of a vertebral body. It is a common cause of congenital scoliosis as in this case.
The MRI is indicated to rule out associated intraspinal anomalies, especially in patients with an abnormal neurological examination.
