Normal ostiomeatal complex diagram. Note the paradoxical middle turbinate, concave towards the nasal septum. This is a fairly common anatomical variation.

Case Discussion

There is great anatomical variation when examining the morphology of the turbinates. In this illustration, a paradoxical middle turbinate is included, a fairly common finding (in one study seen in 33.7% 1). It is not, strictly speaking, "normal" and has been associated with narrowing of the middle nasal meatus and impeded drainage for the maxillary sinus through the ostiomeatal complex.
