Frozen pelvis

Frozen pelvis refers to a condition in which pelvic organs are distorted and tethered to each other as a consequence of adhesive processes.

It is commonly seen in endometriosis. Other causes include tumors, infections including pelvic inflammatory disease, post-surgical adhesions and post-treatment (most commonly radiotherapy) fibrotic changes.

Frozen pelvis can obscure the normal anatomical landmarks and surgical planes, making any surgical intervention difficult.

Frozen pelvis may lead to number of complications including:

Evidence of underlying adhesive processes, e.g. fibrosis, and distorted anatomy with or without evidence of complications.
