Presentation
Encephalic vascular disease. Right hemiparesis.
Patient Data
Solid, homogeneous, partially enhancing mass with small calcifications located posterior to the right internal jugular and carotid artery and medial to the sternocleidomastoid muscle. is generally of homogeneous density and presents some small calcifications inside. It measures 50 x 26 x 40 mm and displaces the cervical vessels anteriorly.
Case Discussion
The most frequent cervical mass in relation to the carotid vessels is the carotid body paraganglioma, which is characterized by avid contrast enhancement. The mass grows and splays (separates) the internal and external carotid arteries. The case presented is posterior to the cervical vessels and displays discrete contrast enhancement. Findings in this case were consistent with Schwannoma of the vagus nerve.
