Presentation
Chest pain and shortness of breath on a background of congenital heart disease (double outlet right ventricle and multiple ventricular septal defects) with prior cardiac surgery.
Patient Data
Midline sternotomy wires and Amplatzer Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) closure device in situ.
Cardiomegaly with a cardiothoracic ratio of 0.57; splaying of the carina in keeping with left atrial enlargement. The lungs and costophrenic recesses are clear.
Background thoracic scoliosis.
Case Discussion
This is an example of an Amplatzer septal occluder (ASO) for ventricular septal defect (VSD) closure, with a disk-like metallic device at the expected location of the interventricular septum.
