Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

An elderly with history of prostate cancer had a CT scan of abdomen and pelvis obtained for prostate cancer work up.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male
ct

There is a 2 cm nodule adjacent to the tail of the pancreas which enhances like the spleen.

Recommend sulfur colloid scan for confirmation.

Nuclear medicine

Technetium-99m-labeled sulfur colloid scan confirms the splenule showing uptake similar in intensity to the spleen.

Case Discussion

On CT, splenules enhance similar to spleen. A sulfur colloid scan can help confirm the diagnosis of a benign intrapancreatic accessory spleen (splenule), especially in case such as this one where there is a know history of malignancy with concern for metastasis or disease recurrence.
