Bucket handle tear - lateral meniscus

Presentation

Knee trauma and twisting 3 weeks ago followed by pain and knee locking.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female

A large bucket handle tear of the lateral meniscus is present with the bulk of the meniscus located medially, adjacent to the cruciate ligaments. 

The medial meniscus is unremarkable.

Mild joint effusion also is seen.

Case Discussion

A bucket handle tear is a displaced tear from the body of the meniscus into the intercondylar notch. The medial meniscus is more commonly, unlike this case where the lateral meniscus is involved.
