Presentation

Patient admitted with progressive chest pain and dyspnea. No history of trauma.

Age: 30 years

Large left pneumothorax.

Large pneumothorax on the left, causing hypoexpansion and restrictive atelectasis leading to lung collapse. Also, there is a small pleural effusion on the left.

Case Discussion

Spontaneous pneumothorax is a condition related to the rupture of subpleural blebs. The development of which is strongly associated with smoking. Chest pain and dyspnea are frequent symptoms and usually start with the patient at rest, unrelated to acute traumatic mechanisms.
