Presentation

Abdominopelvic pain.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female
ct

There is a large blind-ended cystic lesion in the right lower quadrant, adherent to the medial aspect of cecum. The appendix could not be defined separate from it. There is no solid enhancing component. Focal mural curvilinear interrupted calcification is observed. No surrounding fat stranding or abnormal lymph nodes are seen.

Case Discussion

Features are most consistent with appendiceal mucocele.
Appendiceal mucoceles occur when there is an abnormal accumulation of mucin causing abnormal distention of the vermiform appendix due to various neoplastic or non-neoplastic causes.
