Hyperinflated lungs. No focal consolidation, lobar collapse or pleural effusion. Narrow cardiomediastinal contour. Thoracolumbar scoliosis. Mid thoracic vertebral compression fracture.
Case Discussion
This patient had a long history of anorexia nervosa, manifesting on this chest x-ray as:
- marked lack of subcutaneous fat
- hyperinflated lungs possibly representing emphysema (can be due to autophagy)
- narrowed cardiomediastinal contour (reduced cardiac mass and mediastinal fat)
- thoracic vertebral crush fracture (related to osteopenia)
