Calcaneal stress fracture

Presentation

Heel pain for weeks, no history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 25 - 30 years
Gender: Female
X-ray

There is an ill-defined sclerotic band through the medial superior aspect of the calcaneal tuberosity representing a stress fracture.

Nuclear medicine

Dynamic flow and blood pool images show increased perfusion and vascularity at the right heel. Delayed static images show an intense increase in tracer uptake localised to the posterior aspect of the right calcaneum highly suspicious of a fracture.
