Cervical spine ependymoma

Presentation

Tingling of left hand and neck pain since 3 weeks

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
mri

A cystic mass lesion of 13 mm x 56 mm is noted in the upper cervical cord extending into the brain stem region, causing expansion of the cord and extrinsic impression over the fourth ventricle. It shows low signal on T1 and high signal on T2. On enhanced images, small focal peripheral enhancing component is seen at the lower part of the mass opposite C2 level. There is associated small syrinx of cervical cord.

Case Discussion

Ependymomas are the most common spinal intramedullary neoplasms in adults and cervical cord is most common site. Clinically they presents with pain, weakness and sensory symptoms.

The patient successfully underwent complete excision of the tumor and histopathology confirmed ependymoma.
