Diaphragmatic rupture

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

History of chest trauma 1 year ago with left sided hemothorax which had been treated. Now the patient complains of dyspnea.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
ct

Large defect is seen along the anterolateral aspect of the left diaphragmatic cupola which measures about 1.9 cm along its maximum transverse diameter and 1.8 cm along its anteroposterior diameter with subsequent herniation of peritoneal fat into the left hemithorax and anterior mediastinum.

Case Discussion

Diaphragmatic rupture often results from blunt abdominal trauma, which is usually associated with motor-vehicle accidents. The primary differential is a diaphragmatic hernia
