The localization of Duret haemorrhages isare most commonly seen at ventral and paramedian aspects of the upper brainstem, involving medula and pons.

It has two main hypotheses, arterial

  • arterial origin with compromise of the perforants arteries that arise from the basilar artery versus
  • venous origin.
