Gallstone ileus

Elderly patient with vomiting, abdominal pain and peritonism. Increased inflammatory markers.

Patient Data

Age: 85

Small intestine dilatation with two large calcified gallstones in the distal ileum. There is peritoneal free fluid, pneumobilia with gas in the gallbladder.

Case Discussion

Gallstone ileus is an uncommon cause of mechanical small bowel obstructions (~2%). ​
