Presentation

Fall from height, pain around the proximal aspect of the 4th and 5th right metatarsals on weight-bearing.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Isolated fracture through the medial aspect of the base of the fourth metatarsal with intra-articular extension.

Case Discussion

Fractures of the metatarsal bases can be more difficult to assess on plain film due to the extensive overlap, thus careful scrutiny of cortical contours is particularly important.
