Lateral condyle fracture

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Presentation

6 year old child with painful arm following fall.

Patient Data

Age: 6
Modality: X-ray

A fracture is seen extending though the lateral condyle just proximal to the growth plate and extending superiorly along the epicondyle. Alignment is near anatomical.

Case Discussion

The lateral humeral condyle fracture is one of the commonest paediatric elbow injuries and a key diagnosis to pick up. Unlike the supracondylar fracture, the anterior humeral line is often not displaced.
