Subchondral lucency with adjacent heterogeneous bone density is seen at the proximal right femoral head.
Case Discussion
This case typically demonstrates the crescent sign on the conventional radiograph.
It refers to a curvilinear subchondral lucency seen most frequently on the anterolateral aspect of the proximal femoral head, which indicates avascular necrosis of the femoral head. If flattening of the articular surface is present, it indicates an impending articular collapse.
Both frontal and frog-leg views should be obtained for assessment.
