Medial patellar plica syndrome

Case contributed by Dr Andrew Dixon

Presentation

Known psoriatic arthritis. For assessment of degree of synovitis.

Patient Data

Age: 40
Gender: Male

MRI Knee

Modality: MRI

Knee joint effusion. Diffuse synovial thickening and enhancement consistent with synovitis. Thickened medial patellar plica with a large focal near full thickness medial patella facet cartilage defect, which is a well recognised association. Mild semimembranosus-tibial collateral ligament bursitis is also present.

Case Discussion

In addition to diffuse knee joint synovitis, there is a thickened medial patellar plica with an associated medial patella facet cartilage defect (medial patellar plica syndrome).
