Presentation

Patient present with post-prandial abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

Complete obstruction of the proximal celiac artery on expiration with post-stenotic dilatation returning to normal on inspiration consistent with the features of MALS.

Case Discussion

Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is a condition associated with the compression of the celiac artery by the median arcuate ligament, worsened on expiration. MALS can cause post-prandial or exercise-induced foregut ischemia and associated abdominal pain. Moreover, it can cause nausea, vomiting and weight loss.
