Port-a-Cath tip terminates within the azygos vein.
Case Discussion
Cannulation of the azygos vein is more likely to happen from a left-sided approach, but is uncommon (1.2%) with central venous catheter insertions.
Complications of port-a-cath placement in the azygos vein include azygos vein thrombosis and perforation. A fistula between a catheter placed in the azygos vein and the airways is extremely rare.
