Pseudomembranous colitis

Hospitalised and following antibiotic therapy for pneumonia. Now has increasing abdominal pain and progressive watery diarrhea.

Patient Data

Age: 60
Gender: Male

CT Abdomen and pelvis

CT scan shows grossly thickened colon wall and low-attenuation edematous submucosa with pericolonic stranding. All colonic segments are affected indicating this is a pancolitis.

The central loop of bowel just superior to the urinary bladder demonstrates the accordion sign.
