Pulmonary emboli

Presentation

One week after a long plane flight complaining of shortness of breath and mild chest pain.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female
CT

Bilateral filling defects of the pulmonary arteries are seen.

Ultrasound

Another patient: 60-year old with one week history of shortness of breath.

Pleural-based wedge-shaped opacity seen distal to filling defects in pulmonary artery branches in the RLL consistent with pulmonary embolism with infarction. Small pleural effusion is also present.

Ultrasound shows filling defect in upper IVC consistent with clot.
