Presentation
Chief complaint: fever, cough, body pain, and vomiting for 5 days. Chest examination: crepitation over the right lower lung region.
Patient Data
The chest X-ray shows a heterogenous consolidation at the right lower lung zone, with an air bronchogram sign.
Normal heart size.
Both CP angels are free.
The chest X-ray shows a heterogenous consolidation at the right lower lung zone, with an air bronchogram sign (white arrows).
Case Discussion
The right cardiac border is still intact indicating the right lower lung lobe pneumonia.
The presence of an air bronchogram indicates that the airway proximal to it is patent.
Air bronchograms can be seen with several processes:
pulmonary edema: especially with alveolar edema
non-obstructive atelectasis
severe interstitial lung disease
neoplasms: bronchioloalveolar carcinoma; pulmonary lymphoma
