Presentation
Chest wall deformity.
Patient Data
Concave depression of the lower aspect of the sternum with rib deformity, causing narrowing of the anteroposterior length of the chest with left-sided heart displacement.
Mild left-sided thoracic scoliosis with no vertebral anomalies.
The maximal transverse diameter of chest measures 16.91 mm and the narrowest AP length of the chest measures 3.38 mm.
The annotated image shows:
the maximal transverse diameter of the chest = 16.91 mm
the narrowest AP length of the chest = 3.38 mm
the Haller index (maximal transverse diameter/narrowest AP length of chest) = 5 (normal ≤ 2)
Case Discussion
CT features of a pectus excavatum with a Haller index of 5.
