Presentation
Right gluteal lesion for the last few months. Gradually increasing in size with mild pain.
Patient Data
There is a well-defined lesion in the right gluteal region; measuring about 55 x 47 x 38 mm. The lesion is in the subcutaneous plane abutting the overlying skin and separate from the underlying muscle. There is a thin capsule around the superficial part of the lesion. However, the capsule could not be evaluated in the deeper part of the lesion. The lesion is heterogeneous hypoechoic with a few cystic areas and multiple calcification foci. There are also linear echogenic foci in the lesion. There is a posterior acoustic enhancement. The lesion shows mild compressibility. There is arterial as well as the venous flow in the lesion.
Case Discussion
A young male presented with a gluteal lesion for the last few months showing ultrasound findings as described above. Surgical excision of the lesion was done.
Histopathology revealed the lesion to be a soft tissue Ewing's sarcoma of the gluteal region.
