Presentation

Patient being evaluated for hematuria.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Left side mild hydroureteronephrosis due to an obstructing vesicoureteral junction calculus.

Normal sized left kidney with good corticomedullary differentiation.

No other calculus visualized.

Contralateral kidney has normal sonographic features (not shown).

Case Discussion

The history of hematuria is commonly associated with urolithiasis, and in some cases, the need for a CT scan can be avoided when the offending calculus is identified, as in this instance.
