Calvarial thickening can occur from a number of causes. These include
- idiopathic
- chronic ventricular shunting1

antiepileptics
- phenytoin 3
- osteopetrosis 2
- fibrous dysplasia
- acromegaly
- anaemias (largely associated with massive haematopoiesis)
- Paget disease
- hyperparathyrodism
- certain sclerosing bone dysplasias
- cerebral arteriovenous malformations 4: rare
