Hyperechoic breast lesions
Updates to Article Attributes
Body
was changed:
There are a number of lesions that appear hyper-echoic on ultrasound. Such lesions can be either completely or partly hyperechoic and comprise of both benign and malignant entities.
Benign
-
fat containing breast lesions:
- lipoma of the breast
- fibroadenolipoma (hamartoma) of the breast
- focal regions of mammary fat necrosis
- angiomyolipoma of the breast 3: rare lesion
- intramammary lymph node with prominant central fat replacement of the hilum: partly hyperechoicic
- acute breast haematoma: from acute haemorrhage
-
breast angiomas 1
- breast haemangioma: can contain hyperechoic components
- capillary angioma of the breast:
- focal fibrosis involving the breast
Malignant
- rarely some breast cancers can appear hyper-echoic 2: may be related to tumour heterogeneity in cellularity such as cribriform pattern, tubular structure, solid nests and a scirrhous pattern of cancer cells.
