Presentation
Fall from a slide onto the outstretched hand while playing. Painful left wrist.
Patient Data
Bulging of the cortex of the distal meta-diaphysis of the radius, in keeping with a torus fracture.
There is a discrete dorsal angulation component to the fracture on the sagittal plane.
Case Discussion
Torus fractures, also known as buckle fractures, are incomplete fractures of the shaft of long bones, almost exclusive to immature skeletons.
Acceptable residual angulation after closed reduction depends on age. In the present case, the girl was 4 years old, to which the usually acceptable angulation on the sagittal plane is <15º.
