Presentation
History of recurrent severe dysmenorrhea and subfertility.
Patient Data
Transabdominal uterine ultrasound showing asymmetrically bulky uterus having thickened coarse posterior wall with microcystic foci, poorly defined endometrial margins and venetian blind appearance.
No definite uterine mass. The rest of the pelvic exam was unremarkable.
Case Discussion
Sonographic evaluation of the uterus can detect classical features of uterine adenomyosis. Transvaginal ultrasound has more sensitivity and specificity are comparable to MRI.
Typical features are irregular endometrial–myometrial junction , symmetric or asymmetric bulky uterus, venetian shadowing and microcystic foci.
