Presentation
Progressive bilateral hip joint pain for two years
Patient Data
Loss of capital epiphyseal height in both bilateral femoral heads, with associated loss of normal bright signal intensities in both T1 and T2WI. The femoral neck and physeal band are preserved.
Case Discussion
"The findings indicate avascular necrosis of the bilateral capital epiphysis of the femoral head, also known as Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. Legg-Calve-Perthes disease is a cause of atraumatic hip pain in children and is mostly due to idiopathic avascular necrosis of the femoral head. However, secondary causes such as sickle cell disease and leukemia should be ruled out.
