Presentation
High speed motor vehicle accident.
Patient Data
There is a type II dislocation of the sternomanubrial junction (sternum lying anterior to the manubrium) with small associated fracture fragments. No significant retrosternal hematoma. The lungs are clear. No acute suprascapular, clavicular or rib fracture is identified.
No traumatic aortic or great vessel injury is identified. No mediastinal hematoma, or pleural or pericardial effusion. No pneumothorax.
Case Discussion
Type II manubriosternal dislocations (sternum lying anterior to the manubrium) are more common than type I (sternum lying posterior to the manubrium).
