Symmetric T2/FLAIR high signal patches in the bilateral peritrigonal white matter with low T2 signal white matter (suggestive of normal myelination) in between these high signal patches and the lateral ventricles. These findings are consistent with terminal zones of myelination.
Case Discussion
Terminal zones of myelination are the only part of cerebral white matter that demonstrate persistent high T2 signal in the peritrigonal region at about 2 years of age, and indicates final myelination zone. Myelination is believed to be complete at 36-40 months of age.
