In axial T2 sequences, there’s trochlear dysplasia type C after David Dejour, with shallow trochlear groove and marked medial femoral condyle hypoplasia. There's edema of the soft tissues of the prepatellar region. Otherwise, there are no abnormalities.

Case Discussion

Characteristic imaging findings of trochlear dysplasia type C after Dejour and Le Coultre.

The walls of the trochlea stabilize the patella which can slide into the center of the trochlea during knee flexion increasing the strength and efficiency of the quadriceps muscles of the thigh. If the trochlea is flat or dome-shaped it is easier to dislocate the kneecap.
