Presentation
Osteoporosis. Back pain and occasional numbness of lower extremities.
Patient Data
Decreased mineralization of bone structures.
Decreased height of the L2 vertebrae due to osteoporotic fracture and more subtle of the L3 due to probable fracture.
There are no displaced fragments.
There is sacralization of the L5 vertebrae.
Intervertebral spaces are narrowed and there are massive osteophytes consistent with spondylosis deformans.
There are also massive calcifications in magistral blood vessels.
Case Discussion
The patient with confirmed osteoporosis (DEXA) with already listed symptoms.
There are mild to moderate fracture of the L2 vertebrae and mild fracture of L3 vertebrae with dominant height loss in the middle dimension.
Taking into consideration patients age this is probably the case of combined postmenopausal and senile osteoporosis.
The patient is advised to consult orthopedist, although in this case, medications, some kind of orthosis and regular follow-up examinations are expected measures.
