Scaphoid fracture

Presentation

Left wrist pain after falling down.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Fracture is seen involving the distal portion of the scaphoid bone with articular extension and slight displacement posteriorly.

Soft tissue swelling between first and second metacarpal bones (thenar muscles)

The scapholunate interval is unremarkable, with no evidence of lunate dislocation.

No other associated fractures are seen i.e Colles fracture or another frank carpal fractures

Case Discussion

Scaphoid series was obtained, fracture of the scaphoid was visualized on frontal view involving its distal portion which represents 20% of all scaphoid fractures. Therefore oblique and angeled posteroanterior views were not needed.
