Presentation

Increased head circumference in a child with delayed psychomotor development.

Patient Data

Age: 3 years
mri

Dilatation of the third, and lateral ventricles with normal size, and configuration of the fourth ventricle. The sagittal FIESTA sequence shows an aqueductal web or diaphragm. Note the enlarged supraoptic, infundibular and pineal recesses of the third ventricle.  

High signal intensity of the thalami, peri-and juxta-ventricular white matter (known case of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury).

Case Discussion

Case of aqueductal stenosis (web or diaphragm) with obstructive hydrocephalus in a child with a past history of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury.
