Presentation
Left flank pain
Patient Data
Bulky bilateral kidneys with parenchyma replaced by numerous cysts of varying sizes. The bulk of them show normal fluid signal intensity apart from few which show T2 isointense to hypointense signals in keeping with haemorrhages within.
Multiple cysts are also seen in the liver parenchyma.
CT identifies the presence of a small calculus in the lower pole of right kidney. The hyperdense haemorrhagic cysts are evident.
Case Discussion
This case is an example of acute exacerbation in a known patient of adult polycystic kidney disease. Calcular disease and cyst haemorrhages are the two most most common aetiologies of flank pain in these patients.
