Patient Data
There is a nondisplaced right occipital bone fracture extending into the base of skull. Fracture lines extend into the foramen magnum, right jugular notch and right jugular tubercle. Possible fracture line close to the right carotid canal.
There is also an undisplaced fracture of the left base of skull adjacent to the foramen magnum and extending into the left occipital condyle inferiorly and the medial aspect of the left jugular foramen superiorly.
Case Discussion
Type 2 fractures are occipital condyle fractures that extend from a skull base fracture and are usually considered a stable injury. They arise from a direct blow to the lower skull.
