Presentation

Right leg pain following a motor vehicle collision.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Acute comminuted, displaced fracture of the right lateral malleolus with intra-articular extension demonstrating 1.5 cm predominantly anterior, inferolateral displacement.

Acute displaced fracture of the right medial malleolus demonstrating 1.2 cm of lateral displacement.

Disruption of the right ankle mortise with 2 cm posteromedial displacement of the tibial and fibular heads.

Case Discussion

This represents a case of bimalleolar fracture.

The treatment plan included a close reduction of the right ankle and the application of a short-leg splint to the right lower extremity.
