Presentation
Referred for a mammographic evaluation of breast lipofilling, which was done twice, seven and two years prior to presentation.
Patient Data
Multiple bilateral fat density masses, some of them show rim and internal coarse calcifications. There is also a small low-density lesion with faint microcalcifications seen at about 9-10 o’clock in the right breast. They all represent the implanted fat lobules, with calcification of the older ones.
Case Discussion
Fat transfer to healthy breasts is becoming increasingly popular, although breast prosthesis implantation is the most common technique, many women with no history of breast cancer or other breast diseases are preferring the autologous fat implantation.
After lipofilling, alteration in breast parenchymal occurs, leading to different radiological changes over time, like radiolucent masses, oil cysts, fat necrosis, different types of calcifications, and others. Knowledge of these changes on the mammogram, ultrasound, and MRI, can help exclude malignancy and other pathologies.
