Sagittal STIR sequence showing bone edema with a subtle low signal fracture line parallel to the posterior cortex of calcaneal tuberosity. Small posterior subtalar joint effusion. The rest of the scan is normal.
Case Discussion
Calcaneal fractures can be intra-articular or extra-articular. Fractures affecting the joints (intra-articular fractures) are typically considered more severe. The fracture in this case is extra-articular.
