Two episodes of right ankle twisting during the last few days. Lateral ankle pain. Negative ankle radiograph for a fracture.

Calcaneofibular ligament sprain

Small effusion in the ankle joint anterior recess. Normal echopattern of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament and anterior talofibular ligament. Intact calcaneofibular ligament with hypoechoic thickening as compared to the asymptomatic side. The lateral recess of the talocalcaneal joint effusion is deep to the sprained calcaneofibular ligament.
