Calcified acne lesions - miliary osteoma cutis

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Nasal obstruction and discharge. Incidental finding on CT scan of the paranasal sinuses.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Multiple, cutaneous, calcific foci are seen at both cheeks and forehead.

Bilateral maxillary, anterior ethmoid and frontal sinusitis.

Mild bowing of the nasal septum to the left side.

Hypertrophy of the left inferior nasal turbinate.

Clear right concha bullosa.

Case Discussion

The patient has a history of longstanding acne vulgaris.

Miliary osteoma cutis-calcified acne lesions are a type of dystrophic calcifications which occur usually in degenerated tissue and hypertrophic scarring of acne lesions. They usually vary in shape, size and density at the cheeks and forehead.
