Presentation

Difficulty in swallowing. Previous history of a bone lesion in the left ulna requiring operative management (no records). Imaging to assess for malignancy.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
ct
  • circumferential wall thickening of the lower oesophagus from T6 to T10 vertebral level
    • proximal oesophageal dilatation
    • perioesophageal infiltration
    • loss of periaortic fat plane
  • extensive mediastinal lymphadenopathy
  • expansile lytic metastasis in the infero-lateral border of right scapula

Case of carcinoma of oesophagus with bone metastases.

Carcinoma of the oesophagus is relatively uncommon. It tends to present with increasing dysphagia, initially to solids and progressing to liquids as the tumour increases in size, obstructing the lumen of the oesophagus.
