Mass arising from the right thalamus demonstrates a blooming artifact in gradient acquisition.
Non-contrasted CT demonstrates a hyperattenuated lesion arising from the right thalamus with foci of calcifications seen within.
Case Discussion
Cavernous haemangioma contains sinusoidal vascular spaces with slow flow in vascular channels. There is no intervening neural tissue. MRI usually show a mulberry-shaped lesion with a mixture of signal intensity due to area of methaemoglobin, slow blood flow, calcification and thrombosis. Presence of haemosiderin is well demonstrated as blooming on gradient echo.
